When you think of attractions in Nevada - Las Vegas comes to mind first - and rightfully so. Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capital of the World. If you are seeking excitement 24 hours a day, you will find it just 24 minutes away. Huge themed hotels and hundreds of casinos all over town -- even supermarkets and drug stores have "one armed bandits" for you to play. Class act shows abound with big named stars and fantastic productions.
Hoover Dam might well be your second thought. Known as one of the manmade wonders of the World, this attraction does just that! It attracts over 3,000,000 people each year while it quietly produces electricity for nearly all of the Soutwestern states. The Dam is one of a system of dams that control the Colorado River. It filled to overflowing in 1984 but it is at it's lowest level today than it even has been excepting the 1930's when it was first filling up. Some ask why do they
release water when it is so vital for human life? They release water so we can have electricity and food to sustain the human bodies around the world that the farmers in Southern California provide. It's all part of the big plan!
If your next thought isn't the Boulder Dam Hotel that's okay, but it is definitely our next choice ... NO... our FIRST choice to visit. A number of reasons qualify our choice. Number One: it is our home! The Boulder City Art Guild "lives" there and our Gallery is located there representing forty five of our members' artwork. Number Two: it is also home to the Boulder City / Hoover Dam

Museum. Some say they learn more about Hoover Dam here than at the dam itself! The museum emphasises the PEOPLE that built Boulder Dam rather than the huge equipment and materials. Right now you are probably thinking I mistakenly reverted to calling the dam "Boulder Dam." That is not the case at all...it is okay to use Boulder Dam here...it is well known either way and the men built Boulder Dam, not Hoover Dam. A name change doesn't change history! Number Three: The Hotel is managed by a non-profit group and is home to non-profit organizations (Chamber of Commerce, Museum Association, Boulder City Arts Council, and Boulder City Art Guild), a fine restaurant, unique shops and several offices. The Chamber, Museum and Arts Council, along with the city of Boulder City own the hotel...no individual profits from it (any profit goes to pay the debt!). It is in the center of Old Town Boulder City surrounded by unique shops and restaurants.
Scenic attractions in the desert? Isn't it just sand, rocks and sage brush? NO! You need to stop and smell the air, listen to the quiet, enjoy the dry air (humidity here averages 7%!), and yes, enjoy the heat. We do, that's why we live here.
We have beautiful mountains, with snow in the winter (Mt. Charleston is almost 12,000 feet high) and we have the world's largest manmade lake (Lake Mead) just four miles away.
Red Rock Canyon is just 15 miles West of Las Vegas (Charleston Blvd. takes you there) and the Valley of Fire State Park is 65 miles north (the picture of Elephant Rock above is a small illustration of this fantastic park). We have huge sand dunes about 20 miles north of Las Vegas and miles of dunes at Death Valley National Park 180 miles northwest (which also has the lowest point, 320 feet below sea level and towering above its desert is Mount Whitney, the highest point in the country, 14,500 feet above sea level). There are many more scenic attractions in Nevada and surrounding areas.
We haven't even touched on things like the largest Factory Outlet in the world, or the Guggenheim Museum, largest hotel in the world, the NASCAR races at Las Vegas Speedway, and a little known fact that Boulder City encompasses over 200 square miles making it the biggest city in Nevada in area and the only city without gambling. We could go on and on, but just enjoy your stay here with us.
